Rambling Holidays in Bournemouth at Marsham Court Hotel
January 31, 2023IN BLOG POSTS BY MARSHAM COURT HOTEL
Bournemouth became a popular seaside resort for more reasons than its award-winning beaches, wonderful though they are. It’s also within easy reach of stunning countryside, including several Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty and a World Heritage Site.
If you want to do something more active with your Bournemouth holiday than enjoy the beaches, why not have a rambling holiday? Marsham Court Hotel provides the perfect base.
Walking Within Bournemouth
You don’t need to leave Bournemouth to get some great walking in — there’s plenty right here. For a start, there’s ten miles of beautiful coastline, with spectacular views over Bournemouth Bay. That could be either a day out in itself, or else a number of shorter walks.
Bournemouth also has a number of substantial green spaces within it, such as the Lower, Central and Upper Gardens, as well as the Tropical Gardens at Alum Chine and the Grade II listed Victorian Gardens. You can either wander around these on your own, or you might join a guided walk or follow a tree trail.
Rambling in Hampshire
Beyond the immediate Bournemouth/Poole area, there are plenty of scenic locations for rambles to the north and east. The Stour Valley Nature Reserve, for instance, is just to the north of the built-up area, while it’s only a little further to the Moors Valley Country Park and Forest.
On the other hand, there’s picturesque country in between the many charming villages around Bournemouth. There are plenty of options to enjoy the countryside and time your arrival in a village for lunchtime.
If you want to go a little further, a short car or train journey will take you into the heart of the New Forest — despite its name, containing many areas of ancient woodland. The whole forest is a Site of Special Scientific Interest, with plenty of unique wildlife, including of course the famous New Forest ponies.
Rambling in Dorset
In the other direction, a ferry crosses from Sandbanks to Studland, opening up the gorgeous Isle of Purbeck. Besides the countryside itself, you can visit beautiful destinations such as Studland Bay and Corfe Castle.
If you’re looking for walking in stunning scenery, however, you have the Jurassic Coast in front of you — nearly a hundred miles of spectacular coastline that’s been declared a World Heritage Site for its rich stock of fossils from the age of the dinosaurs and before.
