What’s in the sensory room at Marsham Court

The sensory room is a calming, multi-sensory space you can book by the half hour, and it’s free if you’re staying with us. It’s softly lit and fitted with interactive features that support visual, auditory and tactile engagement, and the point of it is simple: somewhere quiet to step out of a busy hotel for a while. Here’s who it’s for, how to book it, and what else sits alongside it.

Who it’s for

The room is there for anyone who experiences sensory processing challenges or anxiety, or who just needs a calm retreat from a busy environment. That covers a lot of people, and we’ve deliberately not made it exclusive to overnight guests.

You can use it if you’re staying the night, if you’re here for a meeting, event or conference, or if you’ve just stopped in with the family for something to eat. A wedding reception or a conference lunch can be overwhelming, and having somewhere to reset for half an hour makes the difference between leaving early and enjoying the day.

Booking it and what it costs

CostHow it works
Staying with usFreeBook through reception
Not staying with us£5.00 per 30-minute sessionFully refundable with a minimum £10 spend in the hotel, on food, drink or facilities

That refund arrangement is worth reading twice. If you’re visiting for lunch or a coffee and spend £10 while you’re here, the session effectively costs nothing.

Book through reception on 01202 552111, and it’s worth ringing ahead rather than asking on arrival so we can make sure the room is free when you need it. There’s more on our sensory room page.

The Changing Places facility

Alongside the sensory room we have a full Changing Places facility, which is a different thing from an accessible toilet and considerably better equipped. It’s on the ground floor with easy access from our main public areas, and it’s open to residents and non-residents alike. Access is by key card, available from reception on request.

accessible accommodation

Inside you’ll find:

  • A wall-mounted, height-adjustable, adult-sized changing bench, with tear-off paper roll supplied
  • A ceiling hoist, though you’ll need to bring your own sling for the loop system
  • A height-adjustable wash basin
  • A peninsular toilet with drop-down grab rails on each side
  • A large bin for pads, a privacy screen and an emergency call system
  • A shower, a colostomy shelf and non-slip flooring throughout

Full details are on our Changing Places page.

What else we have

The sensory room isn’t a standalone gesture, and it helps to know what surrounds it when you’re planning a visit.

We have accessible bedrooms and wet rooms, though layouts vary between them, so it’s genuinely worth talking to the team before booking rather than picking one online. There are hearing loops at reception and in our event spaces, and step-free routes across the key areas of the hotel, including from the rear car park.

Hotel With Outdoor Swimming Pool

For the pool we have an i-swim pool hoist, and there’s a beach wheelchair available too, which matters on a seafront where the last hundred metres is usually the hard part. Reserved Blue Badge parking can be arranged on request, though spaces are limited so it needs sorting in advance. Service dogs are welcome in our dog-friendly rooms.

If you’d like to see the layout before you arrive, there are virtual tours and accessibility videos, plus a detailed access guide produced with AccessAble, all reachable from our accessibility pages.

Planning a visit

The most useful thing you can do is tell us what you need before you book. Every guest’s requirements are different, and a short conversation gets you a straight answer about which room, which parking arrangement and which facilities will work for you.

Want to book the sensory room? Ring reception on 01202 552111, or email reservations@marshamcourthotel.co.uk if you’d like to talk through a stay and your access needs together.
