We offer both traditional Mandarin and British Rules hosted holidays.

Our Hosts

mahjong2

We have an experienced, friendly lady who hosts our Traditional Mandarin Mah-jong holidays, called Christine Read (CR). She will be organising Mah-jong each afternoon & evening after dinner with an optional Traditional Chinese  Mah-jong seminar one morning.

Christine will endeavour to teach you the traditional Mandarin Mah-jong and even the language that goes with it.With such a popular following already, Christine has even taken some of her students to China, which has been a huge success.

Penny Brown

Hosting a selection of our British Rules holidays is Penny Brown (PB), a friendly lady who hosts a very successful local U3A Group.

Her optional session on the first morning will be flexible, depending on the previous experience and aims of the attendees.  We will go over the play of ‘Clean, Basic’ Mah-jong on which the ‘British Rules Game of Mah-jong’  is based and score some hands. This leads on to the afternoon & evening sessions following dinner where we concentrate on achieving a variety of more challenging ‘Special Hands.’

Rod and Mavis Jackson

Rod and Mavis Jackson (RMJ),

Rod and Mavis Jackson, a friendly retired couple, have been running Mah-Jong courses for Bournemouth U3A (University of the Third Age) for both beginners and improvers for some time. They are enthusiastic about Mah-Jong but their main aim is that those participating should enjoy their games.

There are many variations of Mah-Jong rules and therefore it has been decided that for the holiday the rules set out by the British Mah-Jong Association rules will be followed.

A copy of the rules and handouts of permissible special hands will be available for reference but you may wish to download your own copy of the illustrated rules from www.mahjongbritishrules.com or if a book is preferred ‘Mah-Jong (Know the Game)’ by Gwyn Headley and Yvonne Seeley is available from Amazon.

Instruction will be available for beginners and for those who have not played for some time and there will be an optional British Rules Mah-Jong Seminar on the first morning of the holiday.

To enable guests to make new acquaintances and to allow as many as possible a chance to win, each session will be a new game and a draw will be made to decide who plays on each table. However where possible absolute beginners will play against each other.

Holiday Packages Include:

Full English Buffet & Continental Breakfast each morning
3 Course Table D’Hote Dinner with coffee each evening
Overnight Accommodation in an en-suite room
Welcome Bucks Fizz Drinks Reception on the first evening
Morning Tea/Coffee & Biscuits during the Seminar only
Afternoon Tea/Coffee & Biscuits each afternoon
